Delhi's government, Aama Admi Party (AAP), is likely to launch a subsidy scheme from next week as part of its new electric vehicle (EV) policy.

The Delhi government's policy on electric vehicles was announced last month.

Opening the policy, Chief Minister Arvind Kejrival announced that she intends to register about 5,000 electric vehicles in the city over the next five years.

A senior government official said that the software created for distribution of subsidy under the policy was displayed by Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot to the officials of a private bank on Wednesday.

He said that the software prepared by ICICI Bank would be used to pay subsidy to people buying electric vehicles in Delhi. The subsidy scheme is expected to start next week.

In line with its policy on electric vehicles, the Delhi government will provide incentives of up to Rs 30,000 for two-wheeled vehicles, auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws and freight carriers. A subsidy of 1.5 lakhs will be provided of allocated for the purchase of electric vehicles. He said that as per the plan, the eligible buyers of electric vehicles would be paid subsidy within two days.

The government official said, the vehicle dealers will fill the details of the electric vehicle and its buyer on the software at the time of sale of the vehicle. The subsidy amount will be deposited in the buyer's bank account within 48 hours after verification by the respective motor licensing authorities.

To be able to process the subsidy at the time of sale of electric vehicles, the vehicle dealers will have to be self-registered with the Transport Department of Delhi Government.

Delhi government will also waive registration fee and road tax under EV policy. Under this policy, a low interest loan will also be given on the purchase of electric commercial vehicles.
